For Him, We Write
The pre-dawn hours provide an undisturbed, impossibly silent world - one perfectly designed for the unglamorous act of writing. Inspiration may not consistently flutter in and land with precision on the page, yet we show up. Some put pen to paper, others tap lightly on keys, but with steadfast obedience we return to the page. In the stillness we write, coffee on the desk in our favourite mug while the sun prepares to rear its head above the horizon. Our words are for Him. Our words are worship. They are stewardship.
“And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men,”
(Colossians 3:23 NKJV)
The apostle Paul’s words remind us that we are not chasing applause or metrics. Instead, we are chasing that sacred unfolding - the half-formed sentence, the rewritten chapters, the carefully chosen word that finally clicks and feels right.
We are disciplined in our practice, working consistently toward spiritual formation. Each moment at the desk is an act of trust: that the One who gave the gift of language is present in the process. Even when the faithful plodding feels fruitless and inspiration is distant, the soul of the writer is shaped. Humility grows here and dependence deepens. We learn to prioritize faithfulness to the task entrusted to us above meeting output goals.
The writer stewards a calling. Not every piece blooms like fields of flax, but each will contribute to a larger harvest that only He can see.
We seek to honour God, and so we write. We are not loud and we often go unseen, but we endeavour to see clearly, and we help others to do the same. We steward in our steady return to the page where grace is discovered, and truth is distilled, word after word.
And so the candle burns low while thoughts find their way to paper—they are our seeds, our stories, and our songs, small offerings to the One who first spoke words into the darkness.
May your words flow with love and grace, in Jesus’ name.
